Material Lights participated in Stockholm Creative Edition (SCE) — a curated design exhibition that transforms industrial venues into platforms for independent studios, makers, and designers. SCE brings together work that sits between object, craft, and design thinking, inviting visitors to engage with materials and form beyond the commercial context.
The 2024 edition was presented at Gasverket, a historic gasworks structure in Stockholm characterised by its expansive interior, rugged industrial presence, and intimate daylight — a setting that revealed the subtleties of material and illumination in dialogue.
At SCE 2024, Material Lights presented a focused selection of works exploring material presence, light diffusion, and structural simplicity. Lunar Lumin appeared in both perched and suspended versions, where a genuine ostrich egg grounded by a maple wooden structure softly filters light into a calm glow. The Alabaster Pendant brought together seven hand-carved alabaster cups, each emitting a warm, candle-like light that reveals the stone’s depth and veining through gentle shadow and reflection. Oofo completed the presentation with a ceiling-mounted piece that plays with balance and movement, using a translucent paper cone and an innovative pivot system to allow the placement of the light to be flexible.
